Fundamental Approach to Social Contribution Activities

The Sumitomo Riko Group engages in social contribution activities to fulfill its role as a responsible corporate citizen and to become a company that people are glad to have in their community.
As the core philosophy guiding our social contribution initiatives, we are committed to remaining constantly aware of our role as a member of the local community and—as a "good corporate citizen"—contributing to the creation of a prosperous society; we position these efforts as activities aimed at addressing social issues.
With the goal of creating social value by actively addressing social issues that contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, and thereby enhancing corporate value, we have designated “Contributing to Diversity,” “Contributing to Youth Development,” “Contributing to Building Communities,” “Contributing to Citizens’ Activities,” and “Contributing to Coexistence with the Natural Environment” as priority areas of activity in response to societal needs, and are actively engaged in these initiatives.

Philosophy of Activities

The Sumitomo Riko Group shall always be aware that it is a member of the local community, and as a good corporate citizen, shall contribute to the creation of a prosperous society through its social contribution activities.

Framework for Initiatives

In order to realize the Sumitomo Riko Group Activity Principles, we have established "Objectives," "Goals," "Five Key Activity Areas," and "Two Activity Perspectives."

Social Contribution Promotion System

Based on our established philosophy and approach to social contribution activities, we established the Social Contribution Committee as a subcommittee of the CSR Committee, which was launched in 2005, and have systematically implemented various activities following thorough discussion. Starting in fiscal year 2021, we launched a Social Contribution Promotion Project under the CSR and Sustainability Committee; this project comprehensively guides and drives social contribution activities across the entire Sumitomo Riko Group, covering everything from policy formulation and monitoring to the planning of strategic initiatives and their rollout to individual bases.
Sumitomo Riko’s social contribution activities are broadly categorized into "employee contributions" and "corporate contributions." Employee contributions take two forms: "human contributions" and "financial contributions."
Regarding human contributions, the company operates a matching site—part of the "Sumitomo Riko Attaka Club" initiative for all Sumitomo Riko Group employees—that connects employees with "Social Good Activities"*.
Regarding financial contributions, the "Sumitomo Riko Attaka Fund" (incorporated as a general incorporated foundation in 2014) was established; it operates on a system where registered employees can donate—via monthly payroll deduction—in increments of 100 yen, up to a maximum of 10 units. Furthermore, the company provides a matching gift, donating an equal amount.
Regarding the company's own contributions, we evaluate and formulate various social contribution programs through a dedicated project, with the CSR Promotion Office serving as the secretariat for their implementation. Additionally, the "Attaka Club" and "Attaka Fund"—which support employee-led contributions—are managed at the level of individual group companies, manufacturing plants, and business bases, serving to connect corporate and employee contributions.

*Activities that have a “Good” impact on “Society” = Activities that contribute to solving social issues that are friendly to both people and the environment.
